Word is out of Omaha, Nebraska that heavily sought after recruit Collins Okafor has just decided in a press conference at 3:30pm this afternoon that he is going to be a Husker. Okafor received offers from Kansas, Iowa and Stanford and after this past weekend's official visit things are looking more solid for him. Collins jokingly picked up the Stanford hat off the table before picking up the Nebraska one and putting it on.Collins is a 6'1" 210 pound running back out of Westside High School in Omaha, Nebraska. Keeping Okafor inside state lines was a major priority for Bo Pelini and his new staff. Word is that amid this season's best crop of kids to come out of the state in a long time, and with many of them jumping state lines, Nebraska brass was none too pleased. This may help to ease some worried minds.
Okafor is an athletic pickup and will bolster the already solid core of running backs in the Husker stable. He runs a 4.54 40 yard dash and has a 33 inch vertical. He is expected to join the team after spring ball. I'm not trying to toot my own horn, but hopefully I'll be able to get up to Lincoln on February 7th for the Touchdown Club's (a booster club which I'm a member of) dinner and recruit presentation at the Cornhusker Hotel ( Stop laughing, it's a Marriott) to see a presentation on all the signees and future Huskers.
